Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs

crywolfCry wolf is book 1 in the new ‘Alpha & Omega series series that reveal the continuing adventures of Anna and Charles, two werewolves who barely know each other but are trying to start a life together. The story of how they meet is written as a short story in the anthology “On the Prowl” (If you haven’t read “On the Prowl” track it down now… don’t wait to read the rest of this… go now… now! The authors are all fantastic).

I am a huge Patricia Briggs fan. I love all of the Mercy Thompson novels (which involve some of the same characters)  and I was so impressed with the Alpha and Omega short story that I absolutely couldn’t wait for “Cry Wolf ” to be released. However, after reading it, I felt it fell a little short. Something was missing. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it and Briggs is still one of my favorites, but for some reason I couldn’t stay interested. I’m not sure if it was the lack of eroticism or the fact that the after effects of Anna’s abuse popped up in this book. If Briggs was going for drama in this story (like she often does with the Mercy Thompson novels) I just didn’t feel it.  Still, I have continued hope that the books to come in this series will be fabulous. I’m a total fan of the world she has created with the Marrok and even though this wasn’t an all night read,  I enjoyed it.
