Pros: Incredibly realistic characters and settings

Although this is technically a vampire book, the hero – Nash – is the most regular-guy vampire you will ever read. In this mythology, vampirism is a form of virus that makes a person crave blood (and provides the necessary teeth), slows their aging down to about the equivalent of 1 year per every 10, and makes a person very sensitive to the sun.

 
However, a long sleeved shirt and some good sunblock is enough to allow them to walk in the sunlight, they still need to eat, drink, sleep, etc. Consequently, Nash is pretty much a regular guy with a few idiosyncrasies.

 
The heroine is your typical persistent reporter who is determined to get the story on Nash’s archaeological dig. Mysteries and danger from an enemy vampire ensue.

 
Despite the less than new storyline, the author does a very good job of making this an interesting and believable story. The characters are very well developed and realistic. Although I can’t come up with a bunch of reasons as to why this is a good book, it nonetheless left me with a very satisfied feeling.

 
If you are looking for a really unusual setting or main character, keep looking. But for a good, solid romance story with some action and adventure built right in, go pick up Something Wicked right away.
